Onion Skins & Peach Fuzz: The Farmerettes

The season images were a delightful collection of locally significant storylines which I had the joy of working with for the last month. Gil approached me to do a series of Lino cut prints for the season posters and I agreed that the technique would be a fantastic link between the stories as both nod to a long history before them.
Gil and I went through the play descriptions together and brainstormed images for each play. He gave me a reference photo for The Farm Show play, as he had an original photograph of pioneers of Blyth Theatre acting out the tractor scene, as well as the one for Saving Graceland which I think felt personally significant to him.
The rest of the images I sourced or designed myself, for example the woman on the poster for Peach Fuzz. They came out of searching for examples of Ontario Farmerettes. I love this image so much because the girls remind me of the woman I worked with at Firmly Rooted Farm, using manual tools out in the field together all day long. I can feel the bond they have between them. –Autumn Ducharme, artist
