A bluegrass musical comedy about municipal politics

It’s a municipal election year in Rusty River—and the gloves are off.

Larry has been Reeve for so long no one can quite remember a time before him. With his loyal deputy Jerry at his side, he’s ruled this tiny town through decades of handshakes, back-scratching, and business as usual. But when two younger councillors arrive full of ideas (and quickly discover how impossible real change can be) they decide it’s time for a different kind of campaign.

Their solution? Run a cat for mayor.

Yes, a real cat. Captain Whiskers.

What begins as a protest spirals into a full-blown election circus, complete with bluegrass-fuelled showdowns, political shenanigans, and a community forced to ask who really deserves their vote.

Packed with toe-tapping folk songs by John Powers, The Last Mayor of Rusty River is a joyful, timely comedy about power, persistence, and the chaos of local democracy – and it arrives in a real municipal election year, just when we need the laugh.
