Across Canada, artists and arts organizations are bracing for a difficult year ahead. Funding cuts loom, and the future of Canadian storytelling feels more precarious than ever.
But stories are not optional. They are how we understand ourselves — our history, our contradictions, and the communities that bind us together.
At the Blyth Festival, we’ve spent 51 years telling these stories from the ground up, rooted in the lives and landscapes of rural Canada. And through it all, you’ve stood beside us.

What You’ve Built Already
Because of your support, the Blyth Festival has created 158 new Canadian plays — roughly one quarter of all new plays commissioned through the Playwrights Guild of Canada.
That’s a legacy of belief and action: audiences filling the seats, donors sustaining the work, and artists bringing our stories to life.
In 2025, that legacy continued to grow. Emma Donoghue’s The Wind Coming Over the Sea sold out its summer run and enjoyed a full fall extension. Radio Town: The Doc Cruickshank Story became a sleeper hit, drawing hundreds of first-time patrons.
None of this happens without you.

Why We’re Asking Now
Canada’s entire arts sector is facing uncertainty. With costs rising and public funding stretched thinner every year, we need to build a small but vital buffer to protect the work ahead.
That’s why, for the first time in our history, we’re launching a Year-End Appeal to raise $50,000 by December 31.
Your donation will help:
- Keep commissioning and developing new Canadian plays
- Support local actors, artisans, and storytellers
- Protect the heart of our New Play Development Program
