10 x 10 in 2022 Online Art Auction

Round two! Another Online Art Auction in support of the Blyth Festival

Art Auction PosterIn 2020, long-time Blyth Festival supporters Cindy Fisher, Laurel Armstrong and friends developed a special fundraiser for the Festival – an online art auction with funds to support the theatre in the midst of the pandemic.

Building awareness of the work of favourite local and regional artists, the online auction in 2020 offered 133 unique works, including acrylic and oil paintings, watercolours, prints, 3D submissions and jewellery. Each work of art was created by local and regional artists and donated to help the Blyth Festival. The auction committee and Blyth Festival staff continue to be so grateful to all the artists for their generosity and support for Blyth Festival. The final outcome of the flurry of last-minute bidding was a total of $16,790.00

Now in 2022, the art auction event is in final planning stages with the timing of the auction scheduled for November 1 to December 1, 2022. Together with the auction committee, Fisher hopes the auction will not only serve to benefit the Festival and its hopeful 2023 season, but serve as a stage for local and regional artists. “Visual artists have also been hit by the pandemic, so the auction offers a small sample of the depth of creative work in our area. So many artists and members of the creative community have lost out on events that were cancelled over the pandemic period. The online ‘gallery’ showcases our artists’ works and invites viewers to bid for their favourites. It gets quite exciting at the end, when people are hoping to win the bid on their pieces. And the funds raised will support the theatre’s work, creating a new, exciting season on stage for all our enjoyment.” said Fisher.

The committee hopes to receive more than 100 creative works and the artist submission forms are available through Huron County library branches, Elizabeth’s Art Gallery, Goderich as well as Goderich Co-op Gallery and the Blyth Festival offices and box office in Blyth. You can also call the Festival and one can be emailed to you, or you can find the form on Blyth Festival’s website under “Support Us”.

In order to submit, original pieces must fit the 10-inch-by-10-inch size, on a canvas or as a matted artwork. That art will be on display online, beginning at 10 a.m. on Nov. 1, 2022 along with the name of the artist and information on the piece.

Artists involved in 2020 came from Huron and Perth counties, while some were from a region stretching from Owen Sound to Sarnia and the Greater Toronto Area.

Elizabeth Van Den Broeck, artist and gallery owner in Goderich, will co-ordinate the distribution of the specially ordered canvas and materials.

Blyth Artistic Director Gil Garratt added his appreciation for this fundraising online event for 2022: “Once again, the community that surrounds the Blyth Festival continues to show their support to the theatre and we are immensely grateful. To the artists that are donating their own work to help secure our future, thank you”.”

After a difficult couple of years, this auction well help build towards a successful 2023 season.

Intention to submit by artists should be indicated by September 24. Art must be received by October 14 at the Blyth Festival box office (call for hours) 1-877-862-5984.

The online auction event will be opened on Nov. 1, 2022 at 10 a.m. on the www.blythfestival.com website, with the final bidding activities coming to a close on Dec. 1, 2022.

Complete bidding instructions will be on the website for eager buyers.
